North Carolina Waterfalls
Below are images of my favorite North Carolina waterfalls to photograph.
Although there are hundreds of beautiful waterfalls throughout
North Carolina, certain ones are more photographic than others.
For more information on North Carolina waterfalls, I recommend
visiting ncwaterfalls.com and also purchasing Kevin Adams' book,
North Carolina Waterfalls. Both of these are valuable resources
for directions, trail/hiking information, photographic vantage
points and a whole lot more.

Looking
Glass Falls

Looking Glass
Falls, located in Brevard, NC, is one of the most accessible
and beautiful waterfalls in North Carolina. This roadside
waterfall is claimed to be the most visited and photographed
in the state. Because of the easy accessibility, it draws
a lot of crowds which can make it difficult to photograph.
During summer months, be sure to visit early in the morning
to avoid crowds and people who are swimming at the base.
Like many other falls, the photographic opportunities
are endless. The photo on the right is a typical photo
shot from the large viewing deck at the bottom. If you
scurry downstream, you can get a much better horizontal
shot like the one on the left. Before/after visiting Looking
Glass Falls, look for the many roadside pulloffs alongside
the stream on U.S. 276. Transylvania County is self proclaimed
as the "Land of Waterfalls". If you are in the
area to only photograph waterfalls, by favorites are Waterfall
on Cedar Rock Creek, Cove Creek Falls, Shuck Ridge Creek
Falls, Triple Falls, Whitewater Falls.

Linville
Falls
|
Linville Falls
is one of my favorite North Carolina waterfalls to visit.
The photographic possibilities are endless. Whether you
shoot from one of the three upper vantage points, or from
the base, you are almost guaranteed to capture a great
shot. My favorite location to photograph the falls is
from the base. This does require a moderately strenous
hike to the bottom...especially with a lot of camera gear.
However, the trek is worth it. Several very large boulders
provide a great foundation to shoot from. The base is
usually "crowd free" which allows you to shoot
without any sense of urgency. Many of the upper vantage
points get very crowded during peak season and therefore
you may feel rushed. Make sure you visit during autumn
when the spectacular fall foliage provides awesome photo
opportunities!
